Two-way cargo train services from southwest China's Chengdu in Sichuan Province, to Lodz in Poland, are expected to hit 300 journeys in 2016, city officials announced on Tuesday.

The Chengdu-Europe express railway service, which opened in April, 2013, has brought precision instruments, IT products, and clothes from China to Europe, and food and beverages from Europe, according to Chengdu port and logistics office.

It is expected to bring cars from Germany to Chengdu in the future.

"Currently, the train runs two times between the two cities every week, it will increase to fives times every week -- a total of 300 times a year, in 2016," said Chen Zhongwei, an official with the office said.

This increase of scheduled cargo trains will boost trade, and attract more international companies to Chengdu.

The Chengdu-Europe cargo train service will explore two new routes to connect the city with Germany and the Netherlands, Chen added.

A number of cities -- including Chongqing in southwest China; Wuhan, Zhengzhou and Changsha in central China; Shenyang and Harbin in northeast China -- have rail freight services to Europe.
