Latest university corruption scandals

1. Wang Cizhao, president of the Central Conservatory of Music, has been given "a stern warning", a disciplinary measure under the rules of the Communist Party of China, for misusing his position to benefit his child, and was removed from all positions in the school.

Wang asked a business partner of the music school to give a discount for his daughter's wedding spending in June and solicited assistance from his colleagues and subordinates, said an announcement of the Ministry of Education on Tuesday.

Guo Shulan, Party chief of the music school, has been given a warning for the lack of oversight of implementing the Party's austerity rules.

2. Yang Fangchun, vice-president of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, was given a stern warning and removed from all of his posts in the university for having allowed his staff to violate financial regulations since 2003, according to the statement.

Yang was said to have allowed more than 2.8 million yuan ($440,000) in research funds to be spent on meals and accommodation at a hotel affiliated to the university. Two senior executives of the university were given warnings.

3. Liu Ya, vice-president of University of International Business and Economics, was given a stern warning and removed from all of his posts in the university for making money on the side, the announcement said.

Liu has been found working as an independent director in six companies from January 2009 to December 2014 and raking in nearly 1.3 million yuan.

In a separate case, Tang Guliang, former dean of the school of international commerce of the university, was demoted for earning around 2.5 million yuan as an independent director in four publicly listed companies and using public funds for trips for his family members.
