Shanghai Party Secretary meets Latvia Prime Minister

Shanghai Party Secretary Han Zheng met Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma on Sunday.

Han said that China and Latvia relations have developed smoothly and the two sides have cooperated closely after they set up diplomatic ties.

He said the Chinese "One Belt, One Road" initiative has received wide welcome from central and eastern European countries. China and these countries including Latvia have deepened cooperation in multiple fields.

Han continued that more and more Chinese companies particularly Shanghai companies invest in Latvia in recent years and people-to-people exchanges between Shanghai and Latvia have been more frequent.

Han believed that Latvian Prime Minister's visit and participation in the fourth China-CEEC Leaders Conference will further improve her understanding of Chinese social and economic development and tighten the friendly ties between China and Latvia.

Han also pledged that Shanghai is keen to contribute more boost cooperation between China and CEEC, as well as China and Latvia.

Straujuma said that Latvia-China relationship develops soundly and the two sides have achieved a lot in cooperation in fields such as agriculture, transport and logistics.

Straujuma said that China's "One Belt, One Road" initiative is very essential for CEEC including Latvia and Latvia is keen to promote "One Belt, One Road" with China and play an active role in developing Europe-China Relationship.

Straujuma hoped that cities in Latvia and Shanghai can further expand exchanges and realize development together.

Yin Hong, secretary-general of the CPC Shanghai Committee joined the meeting.
