China, Germany hold 'candid, in-depth' dialogue on human rights

China and Germany held "candid" and "in-depth" talks during their 13th Human Rights Dialogue in Beijing on Tuesday, according to an official press release.

The two sides exchanged views on new development in fields of human rights, different understandings of the human rights concept, human rights judicial protection and other affairs, said the press release.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Supreme Court, the top legislature, the government departments in charge of security, judicial, ethnic, religious, information, woman and children affairs as well as relevant department of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) participated in the dialogue, an annual event in recent years.

The Chinese side expounded to the German delegation the progress and achievements made by the CPC and the Chinese government in fields of human rights in the past year, calling on the German side to adopt a comprehensive and objective view of China's human rights situation.

China also urged the German side to better address the refugee crisis, exclusivism thoughts, police excessive use of force and other issues, according to the press release.

The dialogue should be continued on the basis of equality and mutual respect, said Li Junhua, director-general of the the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Foreign Ministry, at a press conference following their talks.

The Germany delegation will pay a visit to Tibet autonomous region, Li told the press conference, adding that he hopes the tour will help the German side get a correct and objective understanding of the region.
