Eight top officials of the Communication University of China have been named and shamed for fancy cars and offices and trying to cover up the university's "chaotic" financial management, by the Ministry of Education.

Chen Wenshen, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) committee in the Beijing university, was criticized for using office cars exceeding the standards his rank allowed and also using vehicles belonging to inferior departments, a ministry statement said on Monday.

In addition to vehicle violations, Principal Su Zhiwu was found having an office "severely beyond" the official standards, using university funds to hold banquets in public venues and putting gifts sent to the university on display in his own office without registering them in university records.

According to the ministry, Su and Vice Principal Lv Zhisheng, both sacked, failed their duties to effectively administrate the university and enforce the frugality rules, which led to "chaos in financial management" and expenditures in official vehicles, trips and receptions far exceeding budgets.

The trio might face further punishment within the CPC system from Beijing's municipal discipline inspection commission.

The other five, ranging from office director to logistics head, were sacked, demoted or warned for fabricating facts and data during anti-corruption inspections and investigations.

While urging all Party members to learn the lesson and strictly follow rules and regulations, the ministry called on disciplinary authorities to tighten supervision in the education field.
