Guo Shengkun, head of the national antiterrorism leading group and China's police chief, has called on authorities to step up counter-terrorism efforts and better cope with "new requirements raised by 'Internet Plus' to public security".
In a two-day trip to southwestern Chongqing municipality where the police chief inspected local branches, residential communities, logistics and courier offices, and railway stations, Guo urged officials to strengthen security protection at "key venues."
"We must speed up the establishment of a multi-dimensional social security system, pool resources, expand connectivity of all infrastructure, to heighten alert, prevention and emergency response" of terrorism, Guo said, days after multiple attacks in Paris left more than 100 dead.
The police chief said enterprises, public institutions, social groups and the general public at large should all be included to safeguard security.
Authorities should also better cope with "new requirements raised by Internet Plus to public security".
Internet Plus is an action plan unveiled by the State Council in July, which identified logistics, services and e-commerce, among others, as areas that could mold information technology and traditional sectors into a cohesive, efficient force, and help cultivate new engines for economic growth and upgrade economic structure.
A balance must be struck between encouraging innovation and risk prevention, Guo said.
