The boom of public art during China's urbanization has re-ignited artists' interest in creating frescoes.

More than 150 fresco paintings and designs applied with the technique of fresco painting are displayed at the National Art Museum of China. Creators are teachers and students of an advanced seminar of fresco painting, operated by Beijing's Central Academy of Fine Arts.

The exhibition shows that artists no longer confine themselves to the style of traditional fresco examples, such as the Dunhuang Grottoes. They've incorporated the dynamics of contemporary art to create works of a modern touch.

CAFA opened the fresco advanced course in 2007. So far nearly 100 students from across the country has attended in four sessions.

The exhibition runs through Nov 19.
