The movie "Wolf Totem" - otherwise known as 'Le Dernier Loup' - is the biggest winner at the 2nd China-Australia Film Festival, which has just concluded in Brisbane, Australia. The 2015 Chinese-language drama took three major awards.

A joint production by China Film Group and French-based company, Reperage, 'Wolf Totem' is based on the 2004 semi-autobiographical novel of the same name by Chinese author Lu Jiamin.

French director Jean-Jacques Annaud shot the movie in Inner Mongolia over a year, though the wolves used in the film had been trained for several years in preparation.

The efforts paid off, with 'Wolf Totem' taking awards for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Film Production.

Among the 11 other awards conferred at the festival, Best Actor went to Huang Xiaoming for the romantic film "Silent Separation", while Best Animation went to Shanghai Film Group's "The Monkey King 3D".

The China-Australia Film Festival is regarded as an important element in cultural exchange, friendship, and understanding between the two countries.

The festival was jointly founded in 2014 by China's State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television and Austway International Group based in Australia.

It stands as a clear reflection of China's efforts to strengthen cultural ties with other nations.
