Air China launched direct flights between Beijing and the Pakistani cities of Islamabad and Karachi on Monday, the first direct services operated by domestic airlines between the Chinese capital and Pakistan.

Flights will take off every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening from Beijing, arrive in Islamabad, capital of Pakistan, at night and land in the economic hub of Karachi after midnight. Flights will return from Karachi in the early morning.

There has been growing demand for flights between China and Pakistan. The number of Chinese workers in Pakistan reached nearly 8,000 by the end of 2014.

Air China will launch direct flights from Beijing to Colombo, capital of Sri Lanka, on Tuesday. That will take the carrier to six destinations in South Asia and 19 destinations in the Asia-Pacific area.
