Fourteen of the 17 victims killed in a gas explosion accident are students aged between 15 and 20, and of them nine are girls.

The blast occurred at 11:57 am on Saturday and caused a fire at a private restaurant in Jinghu district of Wuhu, East China's Anhui province, the city government said.

An initial investigation showed that the blast was caused by a gas cylinder.

The restaurant was opened with a business license in less than two month.

Further investigations are ongoing.
