State Councilor and Public Security Minister Guo Shengkun has called for enhanced cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong police.

Guo made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on Friday, according to a document on Saturday.

The delegation was led by Hong Kong Secretary for Security Lai Tung-kwok.

Guo expressed appreciation to the contribution the region's disciplined services have made in maintaining social security and stability as well as prosperity and development, noting that police on both sides should strengthen exchanges to learn from each other's experiences.

The two sides should also intensify cooperation on cross-border crime investigations to ensure security, and protect the interests of the people on both sides, Guo said.

Lai agreed with the proposals and pledged to spare no efforts to ensure security for Hong Kong residents.

Hong Kong disciplined services include forces such as the police, fire services, immigration, and customs and excise departments.
