Cumulative daily fines of 28 million yuan were collected in 348 cases concerning environmental violations in the first seven months of 2015, according to the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP).

The revised Environmental Protection Law, which came into effect on Jan. 1 this year, allows unlimited fines accumulating on a daily basis to be imposed on enterprises that fail to rectify violations, which aims to fix the loophole of cheap one-time penalties.

Environmental protection agencies are working closely with judical organs to handle environmental violations in accordance with the new law, said Zou Shoumin, director of the MEP bureau of environment supervision.

Between January to July, 863 cases suspected of environmental crime have been transferred to judical agencies for criminal investigation.

Environmental authorities have ordered production suspension or production cut in 1,347 cases during the same period.
