As Teacher's Day is around the corner, awards were conferred on 199 special education teachers in Beijing on Wednesday for their sacrifice and contributions.

According to an official from China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF), China has 2,000 special education schools with 48,100 full-time teachers.

Pilot professional standards on qualification and certification systems for special education teachers were issued by the Ministry of Education earlier this month.

Wang Naikun, vice president of CDPF, promised further cooperation with the ministry on favorable policies to better serve teachers devoting themselves to special education and protect their legitimate interests.

"Special education teachers, who know very well that they cannot make a fortune in their career and are often misunderstood by other people, have lit up the future of children with special needs with their love, patience and sacrifice," said Wang.

The CDPF and the Ministry of Education have recognized 1,199 special education teachers since 2010.
