China's top seed Chen Long retained his world crown after beating Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei in straight sets at the badminton world championships in Jakarta on Sunday.

The 32-year-old Lee was seeking his first world championship title but could not unsettle the world number one, who stormed to a 21-14, 21-17 victory in just over an hour.

Lee, who entered the competition unseeded after returning from an eight-month doping ban, had to settle for his fourth consecutive silver medal.

With Chen Long's victory, China pocketed two titles in the 22nd World badminton Championship. The other one was gained by the No. 1 pairing Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei in mixed doubles. Zhang and Zhao defeated compatriots and No. 4 Liu Cheng/Bao Yixin in the final.
