Excellent performance by more than 100 Chinese pupils from Beijing Zhonguancun Second Primary School on Thursday received great acclaim and applause from audience and tourists at the Edinburgh Art Festival.

As part of a series of cultural events of the China Season at the second half of 2015 China-UK Year of Culture Exchange in Britain, 140 young dancers and instrument players, aged between eight and 12, traveled to Britain to perform their ballet and symphony during the well-known art festival in Edinburgh.

Some of the young performers gave performances at the Royal Mile, a street in the center of Edinburgh on Thursday.

Their unique Chinese dance and music attracted thousands of locals and tourists. Hundreds of artists from across the world gathered at the city's main street performing various kinds of shows simultaneously.

On Wednesday evening, 52 Chinese pupils appeared at the Edinburgh Miliary Tattoo following the Chinese People's Liberation Army Band and Zhejiang Changxing Lotus Dragon Art Group. Their four-minute show was the first performed by Chinese children at the event, their orderly and elegant ballet won applause from nearly 9,000 audience on site.

The group's 90-minute-long ballet and symphony at the Edinburgh Playhouse on Thursday also won critical acclaim.

"I like the show, it's wonderful. The children are very impressive, their dance is very skilled. I saw many Chinese performances in the festival before, but this is the first time... by Chinese children," said Lynn Harrison, who watched the show with her family.

Her 90-year-old father David also enjoyed the show, saying: "What a tremendous effort they have made to bring such a great show from Beijing to Edinburgh."

"I hope that Scotland and Britain see more Chinese ballet," he added.

A local Chinese teacher said she was especially impressed by the live music played by the young students. She said she hoped her young daughter - who is learning the violin - would be inspired by the show.
