Beijing will shut down roads and close subway stations for night rehearsals of a parade to mark the 70th anniversary of victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-45), scheduled on September 3.

According to the Beijing police, the rehearsals will be held from 10:30 pm on Thursday to 4:00 am the next day, and from 10:30 pm on Saturday to 4:00 am the following day.

Streets surrounding Tiananmen Square and Chang'an Avenue, where soldiers will march, will be closed during the rehearsal.

Night parking will likewise be banned on several roads. Only vehicles with a permit will be allowed to enter.

From 11:00 pm to the end of rehearsals the next morning, five subway stations along Chang'an Avenue, including Jianguomen, Dongdan, Wangfujing, Tiananmen East and Tiananmen West, will also be closed to the public.

According to previous media reports, Beijing will temporarily implement an odd-even license plate scheme from August 20 to September 3 as part of measures to guarantee good air quality during the parade.

Eighty percent of government vehicles in Beijing will be kept off the road during that period, according to an announcement issued by the Beijing government.

Private vehicles will be allowed on the road on alternate days. The scheme will be enforced from 3 am to midnight.
