China grants allowance to WWII veterans ahead of V-day celebrations

两部门向抗战老战士发放5000元生活补助金

在纪念中国人民抗日战争暨世界反法西斯战争胜利70周年之际,根据中央要求,民政部、财政部日前下发通知,向部分健在的抗战老战士、老同志发放一次性生活补助金5000元。

Chinese veterans who fought in the Anti-Japanese War will receive 5,000 yuan (802.57 U.S. dollars) ahead of the 70th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression on Sept. 3.[Special coverage]

The allowance will be handed out to the veterans before September, according to a circular released Tuesday by the ministries of civil affairs and finance, at the request of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

China has scheduled a series of events to mark the anniversary, culminating in a military parade on Sept. 3 in Beijing.
