The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government removed the Red Outbound Travel Alert for South Korea and also lowered the response level of the Preparedness Plan for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) from "serious" to "alert", it said on Saturday.

Since the activation of the Serious Response Level on June 8 in light of an outbreak of the MERS in South Korea, as of Friday noon, 403 suspected MERS cases had been reported to the Center for Health Protection in Hong Kong, all of which were tested negative.

There has been no new case of MERS in South Korea for the past 28 days since the isolation of the last case on July 3.

The center reminded doctors that patients who traveled to South Korea on or before July 31 who develop compatible symptoms within 14 days still meet the reporting criteria and should be promptly notified to the center.
