Chinese athletics miss podium finish at Saturday's Universiade

China's athletic team slowed down their pace at the Universiade, winning nothing from the four finals they competed at the Gwangju World Cup Stadium here on Saturday.

Luo Na from Tianjin Normal University recorded her year best in the women's hammer throw final. But her 67.11m performance ranked fourth while Hanna Skydan from Azerbaijan winning the event with 70.67m.

Wang Wupin missed the bronze by only six centimeters in women's triple jump final, which was won by Ekaterina Koneva of Russia with 14.60m for a 74cm margin.

Nikita Filippov of Kazakhstan took the gold medal in men's pole vault while Kristina Maki of the Czech Republic took only 16 minutes and 3.29 seconds to finish women's 5,000m.

German Lena Urbaniak had her best performance ever by throwing 18.00m in women's shot put for the title. Her compatriot Christian Martin Grau triumphed in men's 3,000m steeplechase, his 8:31.55 performance marked his personal best this year.

Greggmar Swift ran 13.43s to win the men's 110m hurdles.
