'Jurassic World' gobbles box office competition

Dinosaur action flick "Jurassic World" remained unchallenged at the top of China's box office charts in the week ending June 21, earning 420 million yuan (about 67.7 million U.S. dollars).

The fourth film in the "Jurassic Park" series, which stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, has grossed more than 1.03 billion yuan after roaring onto Chinese screens on June 10.

After opening on June 18, Chinese action film "SPL2: A Time for Consequences" reaped 269 million yuan to take a respectable second place in the charts, China Film News reported on Friday.

Third spot went to disaster epic "San Andreas", which pulled in 76.9 million yuan in the week. Its total box office stood at 579.9 million yuan on June 21 after opening on June 2.

American fantasy-adventure "Insurgent" came in fourth, grossing 56 million yuan after it was released on June 19.

Rounding out the top five was domestic comedy "The Ark of Mr. Chow," with 27.8 million yuan. It was also released on June 19.
