China on Tuesday condemned a terrorist attack on the Afghan Parliament in Kabul, calling for political reconciliation among Afghan parties.

"China has always opposed terrorism in all forms," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said after a daily press briefing on Tuesday.

Five civilians were reportedly killed and 31 injured in the attack on the Afghanistan Parliament in Kabul Monday.

One suicide bomber died and another five attackers were shot dead by security forces. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

Lu expressed deep sympathy and condolences to the victims and their families.

Lu said the Afghan situation is at a crucial period.

"As a good neighbor of Afghanistan, China sincerely hopes Afghanistan accomplishes peace, stability and development at an early date," Lu said.

He called on all parties in Afghanistan to take stability into account and work toward political reconciliation.
