A Malaysian Airlines plane made an emergency landing at the major airport of Australia's second largest city of Melbourne on Friday, but no casualties were reported yet.

Many firetrucks, paramedics and police can be seen at the Tullamarine Airport in northern suburb of Melbourne, according to a witness.

The Airbus A-330 passenger jet of MH 148 with 300 people on board was en route from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur Friday afternoon and reports have suggested one engine was on fire shortly after take-off.

Website FlightRadar24, which monitors global flight status in real-time, said on its Twitter account that the plane did several circles after taking off and returned to Melbourne airport, but the reason was unknown.

A staff member of Melbourne Airport told Xinhua that the plane landed safely and no other flights were affected.
