Five Ugandan athletes have qualified for the 2015 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships to take place in Beijing, China.

"We already have five athletes who have qualified and we expect more to make it," Dominic Otuchet, the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) President told Xinhua on Wednesday.

Joshua Cheptegei managed to qualify for his first World Athletics Championships after posting a new personal best at the Prefontaine Classic at Hayward Field last month. In a race won by England's Mohammed Farah, Cheptegei posted a time of 27 minutes in the 10,000m to qualify after coming 8th.

Another Ugandan Timothy Toroitich who clocked 27:39.71 in the same race also qualified. Toroitich is just coming off another road race in South Africa where he finished third.

Ronald Musagala, who qualified from Hengelo for the 1,500m and Olympic Marathon defending champion Stephen Kiprotich and Juliet Chekwel are the other athletes who have qualified.

With the qualifying window still open, Otuchet said the UAF technical committee will be looking at those who have posted the best times in each event to make the final team to Beijing.
