Changsha's municipal government questioned representatives of eight local enterprises with major environmental hazards on June 9, in an effort to fortify environment protection, local media reported.

In the first year after the nation's new environment law, Changsha also launched "the strictest environmental management ever". The city's environmental protection department implemented intensive law enforcement in clearing smog, green water, noise cancellation, and purifying land.

As of this April, the city has checked 3,395 enterprises and detected 718 environmental dangers. So far 525 companies have been rectified, and 18 of the remainder have been listed as enterprises with major environmental dangers.

The government has clarified specific requirements to the remaining 193 enterprises with environmental hazards. Correction work should be finished by the end of 2015. Those that need to relocate should activate relocation plans within the year and complete the removal in 2016.

Vice Mayor Li Shiqiu said that all-level departments in the city should bear in mind "three base lines": never break the limits of local environmental tolerance, never allow major environmental pollution accidents, and never endanger people's health or lives.
