Part of capsized ship in central China rolled above water

One side of the capsized Eastern Star was rolled above water as of 7:30 a.m. Friday, as rescuers worked through the night to right the upturned ship in the Yangtze River.

The side that has emerged shows "Eastern Star" in Chinese character on the hull.

The search and rescue team started to right the capsized cruise ship at 8 p.m. Thursday, according to the Ministry of Transport.

The ship has been hoisted by cranes capable of lifting the whole vessel and set it upright. Experts in diving, recovery, relief and ship design from across the country are on the spot to provide support.

The cruise ship carrying mainly elderly tourists was on a 11-day trip along the Yangtze River when it was immediately overturned by a freak tornado on Monday night in Jianli in central China's Hubei Province.

Death toll from the capsized ship carrying more than 450 people in the Yangtze River has risen to 82. Only 14 people have been found alive so far.
