The landscape of the publishing world in China has greatly changed. Since 2012, the country's book copyright exports have surpassed 10,000 kinds. That is three years in a row; a record for China's publishing industry.
At the 2015 London Book Fair, which just ended, original books from China have drawn much attention. The copyright of this novel has been purchased by various countries, including Germany, France and South Korea. This series on China's traditional performing art—Peking Opera—attracted publishing houses from various countries to negotiate deals.
Copyrights on Chinese literature, picture books and children's literature have been gaining momentum in international markets since 2012.
"The key is to pay more attention to details and be good at it. Many publishing houses invite sinologists to translate the books into foreign languages," said Bai Bing, a publisher.
And books on contemporary China are also a hit.
'Xi Jinping: The Governance of China' is a collection of speeches, answers to questions and instructions by President Xi Jinping. The book was first introduced at this year's Frankfurt Book Fair. It has since been published in 10 languages. With more than 4 million copies sold worldwide, including 400,000 copies overseas, the book has set a new international circulation record among works written by Chinese leaders since the country's reform and opening up.
China's publishing organizations are also going overseas. The China Publishing Group Corp. has built 28 overseas distribution networks.
