A rain-triggered landslide killed four people in east China's Jiangxi Province as a new round of downpours began pounding the region Wednesday.

The landslide struck Hukeng Township in Anfu County in central Jiangxi, toppling residential buildings, according to a statement issued by the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters on Thursday.

Data from the headquarters showed that heavy rain has swept through 29 counties in the province since 7 a.m. on Wednesday and is expected to last through Thursday.

The previous round of downpours that lasted from May 18 to 23 left 11 people dead and four others missing in Jiangxi.

In southwest China's Guizhou Province, at least two people were dead and more than 30,000 were evacuated or relocated following heavy rain that lasted from Tuesday night through Wednesday. The disaster cut off access to power and water supplies in parts of Leishan County in Qiandongnan Prefecture.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Civil Affairs, as of May 22, torrential rain that lashed the provinces of Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong and Guizhou as well as Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region left 35 dead and 13 missing.
