Liu Qibao, head of the publicity department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Friday called on overseas Chinese media to help the world better understand the country.

Liu said at a meeting with representatives of overseas Chinese media that the CPC is willing to enhance exchanges and cooperation with them in promoting Chinese culture, spreading Chinese values and reporting China's development.

Overseas Chinese media has unique advantages in telling China stories, spreading China voices and explaining Chinese characteristics, said Liu.

The representatives said they are willing to play well the role of bridge between local and overseas, China and the world.

The representatives on Thursday attended a symposium on the 30th anniversary of the overseas edition of the People's Daily, the CPC's flagship newspaper.
