China established a national early warning information center on Monday to better inform the public of natural disasters and other emergencies.

The center is intended to issue advance warnings of natural disasters and other public health and security emergencies, said Zheng Guoguang, head of the China Meteorological Administration.

Zheng said the center will step up cooperation with major telecom operators and portal websites to ensure the public receives the early warning information effectively and efficiently.

Early warning information released by the center will include typhoons, rainstorms, sandstorms, geological disasters, marine disasters, forest fires, heavy pollution and security emergencies.
