Guangzhou Evergrande made the trip to Xinjiang for the third round of the Chinese FA Cup.

Having won the last four Super League titles, Evergrande were expected to have an easy time against the Leopards, but the Chinese champions would be stunned on a penalty in the dying minutes for a 2-1 final score.

The match was full of controversy, and Guangzhou's goalkeeper Li Shuai was sent off after a slight touch on a Xinjiang player in the area.

Last season's Super League runners-up Beijing Guoan traveled to Shenzhen.

The hosts go ahead in the 39th minute. Guoan's Piao Cheng turns into his own net. Beijing trail 1-0 at half-time.

The most dramatic moment comes seven minutes from time. Yu Dabao flicks the ball past the keeper before Dejan Damjanovic taps in from the goal-line. The equalizer is counted, even though the replay shows the keeper is holding the ball before Damjanovic slots it in.

Beijing continue to press and are awarded a penalty in stoppage time. This time the foul is clear. Erton Fejzullahu converts from the spot, and Guoan beat Shenzhen 2-1 to make the last 16.

Here's a look at some notable results from Wednesday. Apart from Evergrande's surprise defeat at Xinjiang, Super League newcomers Shijiazhuang fell to second tier side Beijing Beikong. Beikong then set up a capital derby with Guoan in the last 16. Shandong Luneng thrashed third tier side Wuhan New Era by six goals to one, while Shanghai Shenhua beat Meizhou 2-0.
