The average age of first sexual experience for young people aged 15 to 17 in China was 15.9 years old in 2014. Of those, only 53 percent used birth control measures during their first sexual encounter, according to the NHFPC's report released Wednesday.

Four percent of youth from the polled 32,494 households had sex.

More young people from families from non-two-parent household had sex than peers from two-parent households. Among those young people who had sex before 17, 25 percent of them or their girlfriends reported pregnancies, with 26.7 percent of those with pregnancy experience having used birth control measures.

The report concluded that Chinese youth lack birth control knowledge.
