A Chinese official who sparked public outcry after making rude remarks in Gujiao, northern Shanxi province, was suspended from his post on Monday.
An investigating team has been sent to the travel service office of Gujiao city, where the official, Ren Changchun, worked as the director, according to a statement from the media office of Gujiao city government.
A video clip titled "remarks of a capricious official" went viral online on Monday, in which a man in black coat claimed himself to be "Ren Changchun" was heard saying "the national regulations are bullshit" and "he who I name as corrupt is corrupt".
The Gujiao city media office investigated and found the scene occurred on April 30. The municipal Party committee of Taiyuan, which administers Gujiao, has vowed to deal with it seriously.
The footage has been viewed f at least 670,000 times on iqiyi.com, large video website in China. Chinese web users voiced their anger after watching it.
"He is not alone," said one nicknamed Bizhananbeijinsan. "He represents many Chinese officials."
"Existence of such officials is the reason why laws are not well observed," said another, Xiandai 928. "The 'rule of man' mentality still prevails among officials."
Punishment for Ren is likely to be announced after a thorough investigation.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the rule of law repeatedly since he took office. The fourth plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee last year made rule of law its central theme for the first time in the Party's history, and urged to form a system serving "the socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics" and build a country under "the socialist rule of law".
