鲁平同志长期从事港澳工作,担任国务院港澳事务办公室负责人,参与了“一国两制”方针政策的制定、中英关于香港前途问题的谈判、香港基本法起草、香港特别行政区筹建工作的全过程,并在其中发挥了重要的组织领导作用,是“一国两制”事业的早期开拓者之一,在香港社会享有很高声望。

Lu Ping, former director of State Council's Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, died on Sunday in Beijing after an illness, according to a statement on the website of the office Monday. He was 88.

Lu was the head of the office when Hong Kong was returned to the Motherland on July 1, 1997.
