Irate man buys, breaks vases in antique shop

A man who cracked a vase while browsing a Chongqing antique shop and was asked to pay for repairs expressed his outrage with a smashing idea - buy and destroy it in front of the owner.

The customer, who appeared to be in his 50s, was examining one of a pair of porcelain vases priced at 20,000 yuan ($3,194) when he accidentally snapped one of its decorative knobs, local newspaper Chongqing Morning Post reported.

Apologetic, the man at first offered to compensate the owner. When the shop owner told him it would take 2,000 yuan to fix the piece, the customer became angry and bargaining ensued.

To break the deadlock, the shop owner enforced his "break it and buy it" rule, settling on the discounted price of 10,000 yuan for the pair.

But the customer did the opposite. He handed over 10,000 yuan in cash before smashing the vases in front of the bewildered shop owner.

"I wanted to argue with him, but then I realized he had bought them, and he could do whatever he wants," the owner said.
