A rare pair of harbor seal twins was born at a marine park in northeast China's Liaoning Province.

One of the two male cubs was delivered at 1:40 a.m. on Wednesday and the other about an hour later, according to a statement on the website of Dalian Shengya Ocean World in the provincial capital of Dalian City.

They are believed to be China's first harbor seal twins born to captive parents, said the statement. The park is a major breeding base for the animals, which are under state-level protection in China.

The twins, weighing 8.8 kilograms and 8.2 kilograms respectively, are in good health, according to the statement.

Wild harbor seals are found off the coasts of North America, Northern Europe and Northeast Asia. In China, they inhabit Liaodong Bay in the Bohai Sea.
