China's central treasury earmarked 1.5 billion yuan (240.3 million US dollars) to train the country's young doctors throughout 2014, the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) said on Tuesday.

China invests 30,000 yuan in training each resident doctor each year, according to a standard that came into effect in the beginning of 2014. The 30,000 yuan will be used to subsidize trainees' lives and improve teaching at the hospitals where they choose to complete their residency period.

In 2014, 59,000 Chinese medical graduates became resident doctors. They have to work as resident doctors for three years.
