China's temperature averaged to a record minus 3.1 degrees Celsius in January, the warmest January since 1961, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA)said on Monday.

In most parts of China, the average temperature was one to four degrees higher than in previous years, with Inner Mongolia posting the biggest increase, said the CMA.

Changes to atmospheric circulation was the main reason behind the higher temperature as cold air moved into the Western Hemisphere in January, said CMA senior engineer Ai Wanxiu.

The CMA forecast that the warm weather will continue in early February with no cold front expected in the coming ten days.
