Romania to diversify economic cooperation with China: president

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on Thursday said that his country wants to diversify economic cooperation with China.

"We want to further develop relations with China overall, diversifying cooperation and broadening inter-human ties," said the president at the annual meeting with the heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Romania, adding that "We approach this goal in a comprehensive, realistic and long-term manner so as to meet our mutual interests."

"We consider that this way we will also contribute to the achievement of the goals of the EU-China 2020 Strategic Agenda for Cooperation," he added.

According to him, Romania's goal of revitalizing and diversifying its relations with countries in the Asia-Pacific region answers its economic interests, meets its desire to reap benefits from co-working with the components of one of the most important growth engines of the world economy.

Iohannis also said the Strategic Partnership with the United States of America is a "paramount landmark" of Romania's foreign policy and pronounced for a "dynamic" continuation of the political dialogue and cooperation with Washington.

As for the relationship between Romania and Russia, he noted that it is shaded by the Ukrainian crisis, stressing that in order to return to dialogue and collaboration, Moscow should observe the international law's principles.
