Courts dealt with about 134,000 cases related to State compensation over the past 20 years, country's top court revealed on Wednesday.

Of these, 125,000 have been decided, and 5.16 billion yuan ($800 million) in compensation ordered, according to statistics of the Supreme People's Court.

Cases related to State compensation increased 4.8 times in 2013 compared to 1995, the court said.

Zhou Qiang, president of the court, asked all courts across the country to file and hear cases about State compensation in a timely manner.

"The situation where residents have difficulty in appealing to courts and getting the compensation must be avoided," Zhou added.

Under Chinese laws, residents have the rights to apply for State compensation if they are unduly harmed through actions of governments and judicial bodies, including wrongful detention, and wrongful verdict.
