The number of international passengers entering China from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport rose by 25 percent than normal during the Christmas period, the Hongqiao Exit-Entry Frontier Inspection Station said yesterday.

Between December 23 and 25, the airport received on an average nearly 4,500 international passengers daily. On Wednesday, which was Christmas Eve, the number was 5,000, most of whom were Chinese passengers who study or work overseas and return home during the holiday. There was also an increase in the number of departing passengers. Many were expatriates who live in China and fly back home during the holiday.
