China is willing to join hands with Spain to deepen mutually-beneficial cooperation in various fields and strengthen relations between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Spanish political parties, a visiting Chinese leader has said.

Wang Jiarui, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the pledge during separate meetings with Maria Dolores de Cospedal, secretary general of the ruling People's Party of Spain, and Spanish parliamentary leaders.

The continuous, stable development of China-Spain relations is in the fundamental interest of the two countries and peoples, said Wang, who also heads the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.

He added that the relationship between China and Spain has both enormous potential and broad prospects.

Wang, who concluded his three-day visit to Spain on Thursday, expressed hope that Spain would give full play to its advantages to participate in the "One Belt and One Road" initiative put forward by China.

The CPC is willing to enhance dialogue and exchanges with the People's Party of Spain for the further development of the two countries' comprehensive strategic partnership, he said.

De Cospedal and other Spanish leaders said Spain is ready to develop its relations with China on the basis of mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs.

The opening of a 13,052-km railroad between the eastern Chinese city of Yiwu and the Spanish capital of Madrid has injected fresh vitality into bilateral cooperation, they said.

The People's Party of Spain is willing to maintain its sound relationship with the CPC to put forward the two countries' ties, they added.
