An official in the capital city of north China's Shanxi Province has been removed from his posts in the Communist Party of China (CPC), local authorities said Wednesday.

In the latest case amid a sweeping anti-corruption campaign in the country, Li Zhijiang, former member of the Standing Committee of Taiyuan's CPC city Committee and former head of the Organization Department of Taiyuan's CPC Committee, was dismissed from his posts for dereliction of duty and violation of the government's eight-point code aimed at cutting bureaucracy, according to the city's discipline inspection commission.

Li is the latest snared in a string of investigations into Shanxi's high-ranking officials. Last week, Wang Shuxin, the former executive vice mayor of Jincheng city in Shanxi, was arrested by the provincial procuratorate on graft charges.

Shanxi is one of the major coal producers in China and contributes greatly to the country's energy supply.
