Chinese community in Botswana donates to children

The half-day party is organized by Charity Association of Chinese in Botswana. According to the chairman of the association Miles Nan, the party is aimed at improving exchanges between children of the two countries, helping them to know and to understand each others' culture, as well as cultivating their spirit of helping others.

At the party, parents from the Chinese community together with their children donated clothes, schoolbags, stationery and food etc. to the children from the local community. Charity Association of Chinese in Botswana donated 60,000 pula (6,700 US dollars ) to the SOS village.

Botswana children played the country's traditional instrument while Chinese children also played Chinese traditional instrument cucurbit flute.

Teachers from the Confucius Institute at the University of Botswana held a Mandarin open class, a martial arts lecture and a chopsticks competition to the local children.

According to the national director of SOS Children's village Association in Botswana Motshwari Kitso, Chinese are the biggest supporters of the association in Botswana.

The event is a solid proof that the Chinese community in Botswana has a great sense of social responsibility and is strongly committed to supporting and making contributions to local communities, addressed Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Botswana Li Nan at the party. He further called on the guests to give children love and help.

Senior private secretary to the president George Tlhalerwa and permanent secretary of Ministry of Education and Skills Development Richard Matlhare attended the party and expressed their appreciations to the donors.

SOS Children's Village Association in Botswana is a member of SOS Children's Villages International, which is an international NGO on child welfare.

The association is active in 134 countries and territories around the world, supporting each other and working together to ensure that every child grows with love, security and respect.
