Hong Kong's Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying says authorities are ready to hold talks with anyone on the issue of Hong Kong's electoral reform. But the chief executive stressed that any proposed change must adhere to the Basic Law and the decision made by the National People's Congress Standing Committee.

Speaking during a visit to Huizhou in China's southeastern Guangdong Province, Leung said that any reform that does not conform with the Basic Law and the NPC standing committee's decision would be unrealistic.

He pointed out that every society's electoral system must be created and amended in line with its constitutional document, which in Hong Kong's case is the Basic Law.
