Vendors at temple fairs, garden parties and exhibitions may be forbidden to sell barbecue, fried food, or food that has a bad odor to help reduce pollution, according to recently released trial guidelines on food safety supervision and management by the Beijing Food and Drug Administration, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

Lamb kebabs, "stinky tofu" (fermented bean curd) and fried squid, all made on-site, are traditionally some of the most popular foods at temple fairs, but they could soon be absent if these new guidelines pass.

The new rules also order vendors to use water that's been purified or boiled when making ice or fresh drinks. They also mandate vendors to provide disposable tableware, and not sell cold dishes made on-site.
