Nine people were injured in a knife attack in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Thursday, local police said.

A man surnamed Zhou attacked staff and customers in a Hualian supermarket in Jiangnan District of Nanning, capital city of Guangxi, at around 3 p.m., after he quarreled with staff, police said.

The injured include six supermarket staff, two customers and one salesman from a manufacturer, said a manager from the supermarket who declined to be named.

All are being treated in nearby No. 2 People's Hospital with injuries mainly in the back, waist and belly, police said.

Witnesses said the suspect was shopping in the supermarket at noon and came back to the cashier later claiming the cashier forgot to give him the noodles he bought, the manager said.

After arguing with the cashier, he pulled out a dagger and stabbed him. He then attacked people in the vicinity, the manager said.

The suspect was caught at the site. Further investigation is under way.
