A major stretch of Pudong Avenue will close at the end of the week for five years during the construction of a "triple decker" road and Metro project.
From Saturday, Pudong Avenue will be shut from Pudong Road S. to Xiepu Road, the Pudong New Area government said on its microblog over the weekend.
A map in Chinese giving diversions is published on the Pudong New Area government Weibo microblog account.
Only two 5-meter wide lanes will remain open to provide access for residents and office workers, the government said.
Some 30 bus lines will have to change their routes, it added.
Construction is due to be complete by September 2019, the Pudong government said.
The three-tier, 7.9-kilometer link will include part of Metro Line 14, plus a road tunnel and road between the exit of Yan'an Road E. Tunnel and Jinqiao Road. It will run through Century Avenue and Lujiazui Road.
The road will have six to eight lanes and a 40-kilometer per hour speed limit. The 6.1-kilometer tunnel will have four lanes.
Below that will be part of the 40-kilometer Line 14, which will run across five districts from Jiading to Pudong's Jinqiao area.
