Hong Kong police on Wednesday strongly condemned the acts of protesters who attempted to enter the Legislative Council (LegCo) Complex by force and endangered public order.

At about 1:00 a.m., some protesters attempted to force their way into the LegCo Complex and caused damages to various parts of the building.

The police, on the request of LegCo, provided assistance at scene.

The police said in a statement that protesters repeatedly charged the police cordon line. "Police had to take actions to stop them and defend against attack after advice and warnings had failed."

"In the incident, police arrested four males, aged between 18 and 24, for 'criminal damage' and 'assaulting police officer' respectively.

"Three male police officers sustained injuries and were sent to hospital for treatment," said the statement.

The police strongly condemned such acts of the protesters which disrupted public order and urged protesters to follow police officers' instructions and leave the scene peacefully and orderly.

The police reiterated that any acts endangering public order and public safety will not be tolerated.

"The Hong Kong community regard that individuals should express their views in a rational and peaceful manner," the statement said.

According to LegCo, the meeting of its Public Works Subcommittee originally scheduled for 8.30 a.m. and Council meetings for 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday have been rescheduled.
