China's top political advisory body held a ceremony on Wednesday to commemorate the 148th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, a renowned statesman who led the revolution that ended imperial rule in China.

Representatives from all walks of life as well as senior political advisors attended the ceremony, which was held by the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, in Beijing's Zhongshan Park, which is named after Sun Yat-sen.

Born in 1866 in south China's Guangdong Province, Dr. Sun is known for his leading role during the 1911 Revolution, which overthrew the imperial Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and put an end to more than 2,000 years of feudal rule in China.

Dr. Sun founded a republican government in Nanjing in 1911 after the fall of Qing Dynasty.

He died in Beijing on March 12, 1925.
