China is also making an appearance in Paris, as the 9th Chinese film festival kicks off there. Films representing a variety of genres and themes will greet French audiences for the next two weeks.

As the biggest Chinese film festival in Europe, it covers feature films, documentaries, animations, and short films. There will also be tributes to late Chinese actors Ruan Lingyu and Jin Yan, and screenings will honor the anniversaries of Peking Opera maestros Mei Lanfang and Cheng Yanqiu.

The festival has already held an award ceremony in the city hall of Paris, handing out a dozen trophies. Sun Qian won the best actress award while the opening film "When a Peking Family Meets Aupair" won for best comedy.

The Chinese Film Festival in Paris was established in 2004, with over 300 films brought to the romantic metropolis during the last decade. This year's event also pays tribute to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France.
